Study Finds Lingering Effects of Traumatic Brain Injuries Can Last a Year
A recent study has found that the symptoms of traumatic brain injury (TBI) can linger well beyond the commonly accepted threshold of three to six months. A paper published in the Journal of Neurotrauma details the findings of the study that tracked 16 categories of symptoms in more than 2,000 people who had suffered such injuries. It found that although respondents reported that many effects of TBIs had improved dramatically in the three months after an injury, the rate of improvement for symptoms still present after that point slowed. Even a year later, some TBI sufferers reported that their symptoms, particularly those related to cognition, were still present. Reported by Bruce H. Stern of The National Law Review.
